As we known before Chinese characters called Han Zi in Chinese. But, Han Zi just one of these characters names. Han Zi also called Kanji in Japanese, Hanja in Korean, and Hantu(Chu Nom) in Vietnamese. Chinese characters are so unique and meaningful characters which had been developed for about 6000 years ago till nowadays. Here some reasons why I said that Chinese characters are so unique and meaningful characters.
1. Han Zi are different with the others characters which usually used for phonetic function. For example: Latin characters(ABCD), Russian characters, etc. While, each of Chinese character symbolize one or more meanings. Cause, Han Zi are actually pictograms form or the combination of two or more pictograms. Moreover, Hanzi are descriptions of real shapes in the world. Such as: 火(huo)-> fire came from a flame image. These things still can be seen in Traditional Chinese character.
2. Some of Chinese characters are logically can be understood. For example: 飛( Fei)à fly. This character is the combination of tree elements, they are: 升(sheng)à going up and 2 elements of飞à>a shape like wing. So, we can infer that this character means fly.
3. China is divided into so many provinces and regions. Each region has it’s own local language ,but local languages in China have no written language. So, they all just use one writing system, that is Han Zi.
4. Chinese characters already developed since 6000 years ago. But, Han Zi still exist and didn’t extinct. Moreover, in these last decades Hanzi were developing rapidly.Though, nowadays we may see that Chinese characters already simplified and transformed extremely : 繁體字(Traditional characters) à 简体字(Simplified characters)
Might be those things that I mentioned above are the reasons why other languages like, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese absorbed Han Zi as one of their characters. Here are some languages that absorbed Chinese characters.
1. Han Zi in Japanese(Kanji)
Kanji is a part of four sets characters in Japanese wich vastly used to symbolize consept or idea. But, besides Kanji which absorbed from Chinese characters, also there are Kanji that made by Japanese themselves. Those characters called kokuji(国字).
2. Hanzi in korean(Hanja)
Hanja is a set of character that used in Korea besides Hangul(Korean original characters) and pronunciated with Korean pronunciation. Hanja’s form almost same as traditional Chinese characters, unlike some Kanji which had been transformed from Chinese characters itself.
3. Hanzi in Vietnamese(Chu Nom)
Chu nom(字喃) litterally means “writing from south”. As ex-territorial of China kingdom in the past, Vietnamese also used some of Han Zi as Vietnamese characters.But, the using of Chinese characters in Vietnamese nowadays already vanished at all. Chu Nom used in Vietnam from 10th century till 20th century and then substituted with quoc ngu(romanized Vietnamese) when U.S. colonize Vietnam.
Besides developed in outside of China, in China itself Hanzi also had developed and are developing in these last decade.
